The Greater Johnstown School District Annual HOLIDAY PARADE
|

This year we will be holding the 6th Annual Holiday Parade
in historical downtown Johnstown, New York. The parade, originated
by Karen Coppola, owner of Classic Image, is held on the third
Friday of November each year. All work on the parade is strictly
volunteer and all proceeds are used to benefit less fortunate students.
We are always looking for new sponsors and participants for the
parade as well as advertisers for our Holiday Parade
program. All money raised is put into THE GREATER
JOHNSTOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENT ACTIVITY
FUND that is disbursed under the guidance of the Greater
Johnstown School District.
The parade also features Santa Claus and his volunteer "elves" who
hand out candy and stuffed animals to the children who attend the
parade. The Superintendent of Schools Mr. Jack Whelan is a
staunch supporter of the parade and his help is always
sincerely appreciated.
The parade features a large number of floats, marching
bands, choral groups, decorated vehicles, walkers, fire
and military vehicles. It is truly uplifting to hear the oohs and
aahs of the children when Santa arrives in the parade. Each year
the parade has grown in size and attendance from a handful of
spectators the first year to the crowded sidewalks this past year.
This year Karen Coppola received the Central Council
PTA Citywide Award for her contributions to the
community of Johnstown and her outstanding efforts on
the behalf of the youth of the school district. She also participates
in the Annual Halloween Parade and Annual Easter Egg Hunt among
other events.
If you would like to volunteer to work on the parade,
sponsor a parade division, advertise in the program. We are
always in need of monetary donations and wrapped candies.
After the parade we also do an awards ceremony where we provide
complimentary food and beverages, for the parade participants and
the volunteers, donated by local businesses. If your
business would like to donate food, beverages or paper
products if would be deeply appreciated. We also need
garland, bows and any other type of holiday
decorations you would care to donate, all decorations MUST be new.
The parade is entirely paid for with the generous donations of
community minded citizens and is not done at the
taxpayers expense.
As the parade has grown in size, participation and
attendance we have been fortunate to have local
newspapers and radio stations donate their services
to promote the parade.
